I'm looking to run a hot and cold supply from my kitchen to an outside shed for a washing machine. A 'DIY Expert' friend advised me to use barrier pipe buried underground as this will not crack if frozen. Is this right? It would not be the first time he was wrong!!

Dig it in deep enough and insulate it and you should be Ok. 760mm min depth if it was cold only, unlagged. If its insulated it can come closer to the surface but I wouldnt do it. Use thick lagging and the proper tape for the joints, to keep as much moisture out.

Thanks for the quick replies. I won't tell my friend he's right just yet

a roll of MDPE blue pipe buried is as cheap as chips...........no point in running the hot  because the machine will never draw enough to get the hot water to itself...just join the machine hoses together H+C
