Please consider the following and any comments will be gratefully received
Base exchange water softener fitted to a combi boiler with a alloy heat exchanger I read somewhere that this will cause problems with the heat exchanger as the excess sodium will react with the alloy.

If the base exchange unit is not suitable what is suggested as an replacement
