Base for hardwood floor

Will be installing hardwood floor on a concrete ground floor soon. I'm considering the merits of affixing 3/4" shuttering ply to the floor with a suitable (???) adhesive and nailing the floor boards to this ......the general principal being that it would make a more solid and uniformly level base to work on . Need anyone with experience of wooden floors to either confirm this principal is sound and suggest a wonder adhesive to do the job or to completely shoot me down with reason why.
