Basement lightwell Grate

i need to buy or have made a grate which is set in the pavement outside our house. this covers the hole which goes down to the basement window.

any idea if i can buy off the shelf or do i need to have made. any idea of cost. it is approx 1m square.

Unlikely you'll get one off the shelf. Somewhere that fabricates gates and railings will knock you one up if you give them dimensions.

That hole must need fill up with crap an awful lot.

Have you not considered using thick laminated glass?

all sorted. i am going to use dura ? plate i dont need light down there so a soild mass of steel will be fine. £70 for 84x78cm.

Make sure it's well secured! (I'd stick an alarm on it as well)
