a basic understanding of basic electrics lol (funny enough)
the college route to qualified electrician is a little to involved for me even if i could possibly get on a college course, there all boked up to the rafters well in advance.

Along with basic knowledge any course of that nature should instill in the student not to attempt work out of their scope, classic example of this is apprentices taking on private work before being fully qualified and having that sense of a certain standard of workmanship and confidence/ability to carry out that knowledge.
I have seen many instances of poor and downright dangerous work carried out by these individuals.
So no harm in learning but it is experience that's important also.

whilst i agree ,you cant expect every one to go through 3-4 years of study to carry out simple diy jobs.

wasn't suggesting that and most people know their limits but i have seen loads who took on more than they can chew.
So a little bit of knowledge can be a dangerous thing in the wrong hands.

everybody has to start somewhere,we are not born into this world with divine knowledge of electrics.
