Iwant to put a TV onto a chimney breast and would appreciate some advice

current set up is that two leads enter the house, sat lead and aerial lead
These leads will be move to a new position (as pic)

Will run power as shown (red is the new stuff)

Its the connecting up of the aerial/Sat that stumps me

The two outside aerials enter the house. At present they go straight into the sky box

I would like to terminate these incoming leads in to a face plate

What I can't get my head around is from this face plate how do I feed both the TV and Sky /Digi/ Games box

do you get face plates with four connectors so incoming can go to sky box then from sky box back to face plate to the TV?

HDMI is just a straight link I think, as is the phone

Do I need anything else

Don't have sky + but is seems sensible to plan for that, so that will mean two sat cables?
How would I connect that.
Could I do anything else to 'future proof' myself

Many thanks

Sky and Terrestrial TV can be combined into one coax and separated again and most the plates expect you to do that so have splitter built in.

However two sky cables can't be combined so to cater for Sky+ or Sky HD you need two sky cables into the box.

So in your case either run cable to future proof or at least make the hole big enough to get more cables in latter.

The normal is to also include cables from your main TV to loft so you can distribute what ever is being watched on sky through out the house.

Here you need to select a splitter/booster with DC through if you want to use a digi eye to remote change sky channels.

So at Sky box from wall you will likely have 4 coax cables but from wall only 3 coax cables.

1 Direct to LNB
2 To combiner and the to aerial and LNB
3 To booster/splitter

There are a whole host of boxes to do what you want some combine all together i.e. The loft box.

Having said all that I set it all up before decorating with multi outlet plate then Sky came to fit sky+ and would not go on roof to original dish so I still have a pair of coax cables coming out of the wall.

this is one in blue peter style. And here is a loft box.

and a load of different wall sockets

in the end I used a splitter booster from Maplin as they were on offer and lucky I did not use loft box as had I bought one when sky came and refused to use old dish it would have really messed it up.

if I am guessing correctly you want the aerials and sat to appear out of the wall and then have a short link up to the tv ie back into the wall and out behind the tv

try these mounted on backboxes

and using these populate the grid to suit your needs, you can get phone sockets that fit the grid so you can use the same system behind the tv

cant find an hdmi outlet yet but try googling for it

edit. found a twin hdmi for the same style of plate

edit. single hdmi

tlc also do diplexed and triplexed plates ie combine all siganals down one cable

Many thanks for your replies ericmark and sureitsoff

I can follow whats going on if I used one of those loft boxes, but i won't be needing to add more tvs.

So I am still a little stuck

You say that tv and sat can be combined, so would this work?

TV and Sat come into house where they end in a face plate

From this face plate I go to Sat box with TV and Sat cable

From the sat box I can take ONE co-ax back into another face plate
module

That links with another face plate module on the chimney.

From there I can split this back into TV and Sat. i.e the one termination into the face plate can feed two cables coming out and this goes into my telly.

Many thanks

Sockets like these

have behind them a lump like shown here

normally the loft box would do combining there are simple combiners but these tend to be hard to find.

However the circuit to combine is same as used to split so you could use two face plates.

Nothing wrong in running two cables but be careful buying plate that it does not include a splitter and can take two coax cables.

Also be wary of de-coupling capacitors no problem with standard aerial but they stop DC feed to LNB I had to short them out on mine.

The combining is called "Diplexed" in this country I did once find a supplier on Internet but could not find them again only type fitted into a face plate which are freely available
