Basin mixer tap handle hard to operate

The bathroom's basin mixer tap has become very stiff in all directions (left-right and up-down) otherwise the tap works properly. Other same taps in the house are all OK. They are all about 1.5 years old.

Where should I be looking to fix it? Would it require removing it from the basin?

Check if it's still under warranty.
One of my grohe taps developed the same problem and they changed the cartridge free of charge.
