I have a wash basin supplied with no tap hole but what look like knockouts for a left or right handed mixer tap. Is there a good way to open one of these holes without damaging the sink? The sink is made of porcelain.

If you want to be carefull , drill out the required hole with a small masonery bit then use a round file/ rasp to open up the hole, it can be time consuming but its fairly safe

Measure three times to find the middle of the knockout, on the shiny side. Sharp tap with a hammer and centre punch.

I did one with my heart in my mouth (cost £350) and a diamond hole saw as used in bathrooms. It worked.

Done loads just as Chris said and never broke one Yet

Bum clenching stuff though.

The manufacturers make the rubbish so they are responsible if it goes toes up.

The center hole is for the single mixer tap
