Basket waste JUST too short or shallow?

Hey hey hey!

I trying to find a basket waste for a Belfast sink (atleast I think its a Belfast - its a deep, square, white, china kitchen sink). It has no overflow either. A standard basket waste fits perfectly into the sink (oh, there was an waste disposal unit in there previously but I removed it (broken) - and hence the need for a new waste), so a standard basket waset fits in there perfectly BUT the screw is too short to get any purchase on the basket and hold it all together on the sink.

I was HOPING someone out there might have come across this same problem and have a solution for me?

The sink is and Armitage Shanks, but they cant help me!

Any help / suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Get a longer screw!
Stainless steel is the best matereial for the job.
Take the original screw to a fastener specialist, ship chandler or car accessory stockist. They will probably be more helpful than a DIY shed.

The screw should be a standard size, probably an M5 or M6 thread.

Good idea on the longer screw! Its a standard Mcalpine basket waste so I'll see if I can get one from them, a bit longer, with the same thread.

Going to try a few merchants today and see what I come up with.

PS: I have got the Mcalpine basket waste in there at the moment, only thing is I had to put it all together first and put it in from the top with a bit of silicon...haha! Not idea but atleast they can use their kitchen sink until I can find something better.
