I have just been and had a look at a job at my uncles house and need some help on getting the correct fitting for the job.

My uncle is currently converting a basement room into a office and he intends to put up a new ceiling. Above this office currently lies the bathroom where the bath fitting is leaking. The current bath waste arrangement runs vertically down from the bath, under the floorboards into a trap and then horizontally into the soil pipe on the opposite side of the room. The leak is comming from the straight piece of pipe which goes into the trap, the trap is also leaking a little bit. The bathpipe work also is run in 1 1/4 and not 1 1/2 which i will also have to change. So i would like to know what fitting or fittings i need to connect to the underside of the bath run vertically down and i would require a new bath trap. If i havent made myself clear please let me know and i will try and explain better.

If you like, purchase an 1 1/2" bath waste kit and a new trap, and go from there. [/quote]

The hole for the trap is directly under the outlet for the bath waste and leave very little room for movement. What was ya going to suggest plz Seco?

Have you a link for that item plz crockett ?

cut the floorboards to fit the trap.
then fit your trap to the waste, waste pipe to the trap, and into soil pipe other end.
so you can gain access to trap if it blocks.
and pipe under floor willbe one length and not leak.

ok seco i see where your comming from and my apologies i have not made myself very clear. The soil stack which is in the corner is boxed in and this is tiled. So the current waste configuration take the bath waste below floor board level. So veritcally down from the bath outlet, into a trap, along under the floorboards a few feet and bossed into the soil pipe which we can access in what will be the small office. So i am rather restricted as to where i can run this. Was hoping to just make a water tight seal from the bath, into a bath trap or very shallow trap and run new1 1/2 waste into the soil pipe.

yes i mean still have it below floor and into the soil pipe where it is now but just have the trap where it can be got at under bath rather than under the floor.

So drill a new hole, fit bath trap, from bath trap using a bend take it under the floor boards and to the soil stack? (apologies m8 ).

Thats the way to do it ( so to speak :) )

As Seco said, always better to have the trap in an accessible place. And you can get bath traps and wastes, which are just standard, from the local diy shops. Have you considered a shallow bath trap, so that you don't have to cut a slot in your floorboards to accommodate a deeper one? or have you not got enough space between the base of your bath and the floor ?

yes
waste, trap then pipework out of trap elbow then vertical into floor elbow then along to soil pipe.
