Hi, I want to install a new bath but the route to the main waste pipe outside is against the run of the joists. Do I have to take the waste pipe over the floor, drill holes in the joists (?!) or re-plan the site of the bath?!
Cheers.

could you run it out through an external wall then round the corner to the waste stack. or below the level of the joists in the room below the bathroom if it's a garage etc.

There's usually enough room above the floorboards for the waste, like suppose it was a solid floor!! A dent for the U of the trap is commonly needed though.
Sometimes you have to raise a bath anyway to get a decent fall. 4 x 2 timbers placed flat are fine - glue em down with gripfill.
