Can I use a fused spur from a ring main for the permanent live on a bathroom fan and still have the switched live and neutral coming from the lighting circuit, or would that be a bad thing to do?

Bad thing to do.

linking the socket live to lighting live via the electronics in the fan timer will
[1] possibly damage the timer
[2] possibly trip RCDs protecting one or botht he circuits.
[3] possibly provide the fan with live fused at 32 amps ( fire hazard )

It would be a very bad thing to do.

If you can get at a switched live from the lighting circuit, why can't you also get at a permanent one?

I'm moving the fan from one side of the room to the other and the switched live would be easy from a nearby fitting, the permananent one wouldn't be easy - but there is an unused fused spur there too.

Thanks for the replies - I will have to find a way to get the permanent live from the lights without too much disruption.
