Greetings

I'm Mr stupid have just brought a cheap light for my bathroom. decided to install it myself. removed old rose from ceiling to find 3 red 3 black and 3 earth wires. One of the black wires had a small red case which fell off when removing rose. So after removing all cables from block and not noting where the correct position for each cable was. I decided to put it all back together to find upstairs lights didn't work. All I wanted to do was put my new light up. Please help with this simple problem .

If you have forgotten which black had the red sleeving on then it is time to find out which cable goes to the switch by physically tracing it or using a multimeter to find out.

You're not the first, and you won't be the last.

The cable with the red sleeve on the black is the one that goes to the switch.

Black sleeved red = switch live of light fitting.
Remaining blacks = neutral of light fitting.
All reds = together in a separate connector block not directly wired to light fitting.

All earths together, earth terminal may be on fitting unless it is double insulated.
