Hello,
I've recently painted my 2.5m2 bathroom with Johnstone Acrylic Durable Matt paint recommended to me by the trade supplier Brewers. The paint went on OK and after two days drying we have stated using the shower and after a week or so there are condensation run marks down the walls.
I went back to Brewers to ask why this would be considering they recommended it for a bathroom pain and they said I should have left it to dry for a couple of weeks before using the shower!! Is that right??
Anyway, I need to re-paint. What is the best bathroom paint to use?
Thank you.

PS. I should mention that we had it tinted to a very light cream/yellow colour.

Condensation is your problem.
Less of a problem this time of the year with the warm weather but you need to try and control that..
You have cold walls and the moist hot air is hitting that causing condensation.
There are paints that help stop the condensation forming on the surface but not the firsts option.

Thanks @Wayners
Yes, condensation is the problem and we're installing a more powerful extractor, but this Johnstone paint gets streaks down it after a shower when the previous paint didn't.

So the question is, what is the best bathroom paint to use?
Thanks

Buy the same colour in Johnstones eggshell.
Has a bit of a sheen at around 10%
Or
Zinsser Perma-White Interior matt tinted to match if you want a matt.

Think I'd go for the eggshell

Ok, thanks @Wayners
They said that I should have left it to dry for a couple of weeks before using the shower!!
Is that right??

Anyone else want to chip in on this?

You could have left the paint for a year. You still would have had condensation running down the wall.

The fact that it is running down the wall proves that the paint purchased is doing what it should- namely, preventing the condensation from penetrating through the paint into the plaster.

On the balance of probability, the old paint soaked up the condensation and released it throughout the day.

Like @Wayners , I am a decorator. You need to improve the airflow.

If am guessing that you see streaks which make the paint, temporarily, darker?

Eggshell will not change in colour when wet, but the water is likely to run all the way down to the floor. If the floor is tiled, in the interim period, that might not be a problem.

Hi there,

Had exactly the same issue with this paint from Johnstone’s. Could you let me know if you manage to solve this/ find a way to manage it?
