Our bathroom wash basin has become wobbly, the sealant was old and although we reported it to our landlord nothing was done so it got worse.

The hole in the wall that the screw went through has got wet and is now probably the size a thumb hole so the screw won't grab on to anything and its getting progressive worse.

We want to attempt to fix it ourselves but not sure what we can use to get the screw to grip into the plaster wall so we can reveal the sink. Although the screw is long you can fell it hitting the wall masonry wall beyond the plaster board but it just turns in the hole and doesn't actually fix.

The basin sits on a pedestal.

Many thanks

Tell your l/lord the sinks fallen off the wall and you have water leaking everywhere, on a practical note you cannot secure a sink to plasterboard once it becomes loose, need refitting, though you could replace sealant and squirt some behind which will glue it in place if well supported by pedestal.

Refitted how ? How would a plumber or builder do. Surely they would only be able I use the 2 holes in the ceramic basin to attach it to the wall ?

They may even fit a bracket under the basin, to add extra support.

As its not your sink, be extremely careful, if your fixings do not go in exactly straight it is very easy to crack the ceramic (I can vouch for this  :p ) and your l/l will not be best pleased should that happen.

Well they should have done it one of the many times its been mentioned, and stupidly we would replace the sink ourselves anyway, like most things we have in the house at our own expense when the responsibility wasn't ours, we just need it safe for our little girl and to minimise the risk of the pipes bej g damaged and flooding the house. But thanks for the advice x

Foxhole...It didnt say that.

It does say it sits on a pedatal.

Anyway we're going to fix a baton as having felt the hole the damp has made it more of a large oval or 8 shape so we can't see how any fixtures would stay in place anyway.

Thanks for all the advice, appreciate it.

looby...took me 3 reads to see that..yes had spec on...must need new..
