Hello,

I have a 2.4m stretch of 38mm laminate worktop that I want to support for a desktop.I want to batten the walls on 3 sides and place a leg in the middle.

I have some 2x1s I'll be using for the battens, fixed to a brick wall. I'm trying to determine what length of screw to use.

If I go for 2 x width of piece to hold in to piece to fix to, that's 2 inches into the wall plus the 1 inch batten + plaster which is 1.5 to 2cm. This comes to around 95-100mm screw length which seems quite a lot, but then it does need to be sturdy.

Does this sound about right? I plan to space screws 100-150mm apart.

Ott , 75-80mm screws and 6-8 across the back and 3 down the sides will be plenty.

Excellent, I suspected 100mm was overkill. Screws will be countersunk slightly too so will opt for 75mm, and red Rawl plugs.

Thanks
