The ground floor radiators in the living room furthest away from the boiler, are hardly aired whilst those nearest the boiler seem hot enough. There is also an occasional knocking noise from the system. I suspected low pressure or a pump fault, but it seems OK. The living room radiators aren't full of air either, just tried bleeding them. Gut instinct would be a pump fault not sending hot water to the extremities, but indications show the contrary. We had the system powerflushed, and a new heat exchanger fitted, all within the last 18 months. Can anybody suggest what the problem might be? Thanks.

Most likely pump worn mate, obviously there are other issues that can give same symptoms but, if this has risen on its own with no recent work being carried out then pump is likely suspect. Wot is the pressure gauge reading when cold ?also power flushing doesn't always clear the muck out of the boilers successfully so still might be suffering from that.

Thanks Barny. Not sure what the reading is cold, I'll have to look tomorrow. Radiators near the boiler, red hot. Radiators furthest away, barely aired.

Just tried a tap...seems to be. Does the pump have any effect on the hot water system or is it purely for central heating?

Yeh pump can affect both on that type of boiler, more common to affect newer types of boilers tho on hot water

Before you go nuts changing pumps, check the filter in the return isolation valve. If its been flushed theres a good chance that theres a load of ****e wedged in there restricting the flow.
