Our Baxi 105E makes a jet like noise intermittently. Of late it is happening more frequently and throughout the night. Last night happened about 3 times and no hot water or heating was on. It appeared to be filling with water at the time of the noise. Can you recommend whether I need to call out the British Gas engineer as it is on contract ?

of course!! you're not paying them for nothing.
check your filling loop isn't open first.

Are there any signs it has dumped some water out of the pressure relief...the open pipe outside? and do you need to top up the pressure manually?

Thanks for your responses - should the filling loop be open or shut ? It was shut and we opened it to increase the pressure to about 2.3 (it was about 1.1) The recommended is between 1-2.5. It is now shut - is this correct. S.

The filling loop should be shut and DISCONECTED to comply with water regulations.

The pressure should be between 0.5 and 1 bar when the boiler is COLD. If it is as high as 2.3 as you say yours is when the boiler heats up it will rise above 3 bar the thresh hold of the pressure release valve.
