Hello everyone,

I had my boiler broken down. So I called the emergency engineer to fix it. He said that it is leaking and you need a new boiler. he said it will cost £2000 for the new baxi back boiler with front fire standard one.

I dont know normally how much it will cost?

As we dont know anything about boilers and it is very cold we agreed to that price.

But I recently checked in the website the boiler is only £500 and odd. I feel like I have been cheated.

Can you anyone help me the amout I paid is too much??

this is the boiler we have got at the moment.

Now I have problem with the front fire it is not working - means it does not ignite.
what do I need to do?? Is it a good idea to call that engineer back?

Please give some advice on it.

cheers,

Why do you feel cheated?, you didn't before you stumbled across that site. If you order off the site you will end up with a big boiler in your living room in a big box and it will cost you 800 odd including vat and delivery, but it won't keep you very warm.
With regards to the fire, if its only a few months old call the installer in to repair it, but it sounds like maybe the annual service is due.
If it makes you feel any better I had to have a head gasket fitted on my car, the gasket cost 38.00 and the bill including fitting was over a grand.

You are right, If I order the stuff from web, I might have gone mad with finding a good engineer and all the hastle from that......

Any way, sorry for my whinging ........

I realised that it is not a easy job to fix the problem and everything is costing very much here and I am new this country it will take a while to learn about the system

Excuse my ignorance but aren't new back boilers illegal or did Baxi get the exhemption they wanted?

I assume this is a recent event?

In my view you were done beacuse I would have changed your system and given you a condensing boiler or I would have fixed your old boiler by hook or by crook.

If it is not so that Baxi gained exhemption and you were not correctly informed about the requirements under the building regs then I would kick up a huge stink. I'm sick of registered installers who flaunt the rules, eventually they will all have to toe the line but for the time being those who are by the book are suffering.

Secondly it's time the government prohibited sale of non complient devices. They don't seem to read my posts cause nothing changes and I'm always banging on about their ineptitude. course I might end up in a Goolag.
