Hi all,

The boiler in question is the notorious Baxi Bahama 100, and has decided to stop doing anything useful (like heat water, or warm the house..).

Neither the DHW or CH work. The orange neon light comes on, the fan starts, but there’s no ignition and the pump doesn’t kick in.

I know I’m probably looking at replacing the hideous thing (which I’m not even remotely against), but I’d like it looked at first to see whether it’s capable of hanging on for a while, at least so I can save up the bigger amount of money for a new boiler. :(

If there’s anyone in my area that might be able to nip by and give me a quote, I’d be deeply grateful. We’re in Letchworth.

Thanks for all your useful tips which have helped greatly so far with my DIY and such!

best advice

usually the 1st thing baxi ask you to check is the 2 flow switches but you'll need a RGI unless you feel confident enough to do this. my opinion get a new boiler

Don't know these very well, but shouldn't pump be one of the first things to kick in with/before fan :?:

iknow em well and timmy is on the money

blooming things

Hehehe... :)

I think that I’d be more than competent to replace a couple of flow switches, BUT, there are undoubtedly a million other things wrong with this POS boiler that only a decent RGI would spot/know to look for. Plus, I’m so fed up with the damn thing that I wouldn’t want anything else going wrong with it that I managed to cause.

So, any suggestions on the replacement front?

I have none to give someone as competant as you

go for it

PS they can be a bittch to change and dont forget to get some long nosed pliers to get the magnet out

:)

good luck

worcester or vaillant if you got plenty of dosh.. other than that baxi ecotec, main 30 choice is yours stay off ravenheats n any other b n q cwap

Thanks, Timmy. I think it’s less a case of having loads of dosh, and more wanting to not have an overpriced piece of scrap hanging on the wall, doing bugger-all in terms of heating water.

I’m getting the impression from several sources that I should try to scrape together the cash for something by Worcester & Vaillant.

The pump should run first to operate the primary flow switch!

why

get someone in to sort it, they may not be great but it should be repairable

:)

The story so far...

Both flow switches cleaned and returning correct readings. Pump firing up.
Fan wasn't starting up, so air pressure switch was replaced. The guy at the spares desk said something along the lines of "Ah, it always seems like the pressure switch isn't working, but it'll be the PCBs."

Lo and behold, the fan still didn't kick in, so the engineer ordered the ECS board at £156+VAT. I had to go out and leave him to fit, so came back to his note saying that the ECS board didn't fix the problem, and it'd probably be the other board as well, at somewhere around the £190+VAT mark.

That's kinda why I'd thought about going for another boiler and not haemorrhaging money on this one, which still isn't fixed.

What joy... It seems that the flowcharts in the manual always seem to end up with a "replace this eye-wateringly expensive bit - it might fix the problem".
