My in-laws both senior citizens have a large victorian house, 6 bedrooms,
with at least 14 radiators. The boiler came with house when purchased.
I think the boiler is too small for such a large house especially as the water inlet is only 15mm.

They have a maintenance contract with a local corgi engineer and every couple of years now he fits a new diaphram and a new pcb in 2004 and a new diaphram in 2007.

Although the boiler works the dhw runs hot then cold then hot again. The dhw runs hotter if the ch is on. So if bath water is required the ch must be turned on. The corgi engineer says the boiler needs a new diaphram, again?????.

Should we dispense with this boiler and fit a new condensing boiler?

Your advice is greatly appreciated.

The symptom you describe is a little conflicting!

If the boiler fires up for DHW demand the the diaphragm is OK.

Usually hot then cold is a blocked plate HE.

However, that would not be affected by having the CH on!

It sounds as if there may be two faults but the first thing would be to clean the plate HE if thats blocked.

But as its on a contract then the CORGI should be dealing with it regardless of whats wrong!

This definately sounds like a blocked/sludged heat exchanger. As for changing the boiler it does sound as if it's on the limits of what it can do. As Agile says tho.....if you have a maintenance contract call em in
