Hi guys. I have a baxi 80eco combi boiler that when its up and running is fine. The problem is when i try to start it up from cold it takes many attempts to get it to fire up. It tries to fire up but then the red light comes on. Tried it both on h/w only and both h/w and c/h Some nights ive given up after trying for 20 mins. Once its fired up for the first time it will work ok.
Thanks if anyone can help.

Hi, need to more about whats its doing when it's attempting to fire ?

Does pump run ?
Does fan run ?
Does it spark ?

First thing to eliminate.
Do you have any other gas appliances it could possibly be a sticking meter governor.
If you do, try turning one of those on first then try boiler.

hi guys

yes pump, fan both run and also sparks.

there are no other gas appliances.

the plumber my landlord sent out has replaced the circuit board but has made no difference.

Ok, its a gas problem then.
You need to have it checked and make sure you have the correct pressures inlet and outlet and working pressure at meter etc

Why would he change the PCB for a gas problem ? Has he ruled out the gas valve and governor ?
Strange !!!!

well he was meant to be changing the valve but then came back with a pcb board

When its trying to light first thing give the meter governor a gentle tap.(this is on meter inlet)
If this works and boiler lights call out the emergency provider for your area to change it

It is quite a common fault that certain governors stick after no demand has been made on them for a while then once they are moving they work perfectly ok then stick again

Yeah, had one last week. Called them out to faulty governor. Only 3mb at combi when fired on full and not much more at meter.
Turned out there was a blockage in the pipe underground and very little gas was entering the meter.
It can be a pain.
