strange issue..
We have been away for a week, came back today and put the heating and h/water on. (The heating was on while we were away 2 times a day controlled at 16 degrees by the thermostat on the wall supposedly)

I was out and my wife rang me to say that something started smelling of burning wires (really strong odour in the end) She couldnt figure out what it was so she switched everything off in the kitchen.

When i came back i checked everything in the kitchen and switched the boiler on and it worked fine but i heard slightly unusual noise coming from it, but nothing really alarming. After a while the smell started coming back, but not strong, but i traced the source to be the boiler.

I decided to switch it off with the power switch on the wall, so I did and there was a noise of something metal actually falling through the radiators
into the boiler or something. It was very loud

As we desperately needed the hot water I thought I would do the immersion heater only so I switched off the boiler with the little handle (turned it all the way anticlockwise until it clicked) and put the switch in the kitchen on (the one which gives power to the boiler)

At this point I noticed sparks coming out of the circuit board under the turning regulator.

So at the moment I am stuck as I cant use immersion heaters either (I thought they worked independently from the boiler though)

Well I think I couldnt have written it with more detail :)

Hope you wouldnt find it too long..

I would really appreciate your advice on this as I would love to know what it is

Thanks in advance!

Probably find the board burnt out and shorting by the main pot on the right hand side of the front of the board.

what about the noise though? would the fan or pump fail in this case?

sounds like a boiler replacement to me as this one is 12 years old

could you please tell me which boiler model would fit without alterations in the system?

i would love to take one out and put new in (not me personally of course)

thank you!

Perfectly repairable. The boards are still available. I doubt the board would take out the fan so should be ok.

As to replacements any good heat only boiler would slot in (with minor pipework amendments....and condensate run installed
