baxi solo 2pf 40 - pilot light not coming on

sorry dave, was being a bit dim there.

The vavle sticker has the code VR4601T on it and it's a honeywell unit.

Cheers

johnfox, i'm south east london/kent border, near bromley. Not sure where to get parts from just yet.

Dave, that is the part, yes. thank you. How do I find the part number for the solenoid? And what is it supposed to do?

I'm not sure the solenoid you linked to earlier is right for this valve, it has a small pipe of sorts coming out of one end from the picture on the website, whereas the one I've removed doesn't (as you may be able to see from the pic of the valve (black solenoid).

I take it I can't swap the 2 solenoids if they look different, or can I? Not sure I can check the continuity I'm afraid.

twgas - The second solenoid on the list looks right, but it doesn't say it's for a Solo 2 pf 40, says it's for a Solo 3?

Where in kent are you??!!

sorry twgas, didn't read the last part of your post. Understand that you don't want to do jobs on the side. I just don't want to be stung by a cowboy! Can you make any recommendations for someone who won't rip me off if I can't sort it myself?

thanks twgas, that's a relief the solenoids are the same.

At £40 though it's a bit more of a dangerous punt if it doesn't work!

Gents,

got the voltmeter working - there's 238 - 241 across the terminals on the solenoid, so the wiring is ok to here at least. What's next to check please?!!

I'm learning..... slowly but surely....

dave, hadn't seen your last post, thanks. Slough's over an hour away from me, so not sure it's worth it in case it's the wrong part. Could be worth seeing if they can deliver for me though.

Anyway, just off to check for voltage at the control valve. What next, I can now do electrical checks!!

Right, may be getting somewhere now! Famous last words.

We have approx 240V at the solenoid. However, the two terminals on the right hand side of the control valve unit (http://www.abcotuk.co.uk/Product.asp?ProductId=P349&Catid=C2) have a reading of zero.

Does this suggest the solenoid is the culprit? Why would there be no voltage reading at this point?

Well, unless your pilots completely blocked (and I very much doubt it) you need a pilot solenoid operator.

Abcot do deliver, but it might be worth a call to them to ensure my link is the correct part.

Dave
