Bay window repair

Strip off and replace felt roof , EPDM would be my choice but not as cheap as felt . Would last much longer than felt .

OP, you should detail what is included for the quotes you're getting. £2,000 is for what? That would be steep if it's just repairing it as it is.

I would also be tempted to go with a pitched tiled roof, but this would be more expensive.

Poster opps,
I'm afraid that you've made a number of bad advice mistakes such as:

"the timber doesn't look that bad" - The decay is obvious, but you "cannot see decay". You "cannot see anything seriously wrong with the timber".
"there seems to be cement" "it does look like cement" where?
You wouldn't work from a step-ladder - you would use a platform. eg two trestles & three planks.

Where did I say there was "guttering" on the bay? Perhaps if you carefully read what I had written it would help you?
"flooring & walls" questions can sometimes help form a better picture & sometimes help when doing the remedial work.

"they can use tin" - tin? Please explain?
Yes, I was curious about 'tin'.
Presumably it refers to coated steel roofing as used for large industrial buildings? But if so, the profile might look too large-scale for a small bay roof. And cutting/fitting metal sheeting is not particularly easy.

I meant zinc, not tin. Naturally, less longevity than lead, but a lot cheaper.

What's under the deck? Insulation may need adding, replacing or topping up.
If it was me, I'd strip the deck, sort out the above, new ply, felt/EPDM, flashing, new timber fascia and gutter. Mini guttering is available and might be suitable here.

This bay window has been neglected for some time. And surprise surprise it now needs some repair. I'm guessing as a minimum refelting, probably some replacement boards, and maybe replace the wooden facia for upvc.

had a quote for £2,000 with scaffolding required. Seems a little excessive. Obviously getting a couple more quotes and will see.

And yes, I know, the rendering needs doing as well.
2k is reasonable IMO but only if they know what they are doing and use the right materials. That is the uncertainty, especially if you are relying totally on their spec without some knowledge of hat needs doing.
