... it was a shot at goal, so other players not in play... and it hit a Chelsea player, before rebounding to Ribery.... off a Chelsea player... so no offside !!!!

I'm still glad Chelsea won though !!!

btw i'd prefer sooey, FMT, ellal and Joe90 not to reply to this.

Also pundits need to get cleverer... Neville is excitable, but missed a ball hitting an arm...(probably not handball) but it wasn't a straight "ball to chest".... they need to be smarter to be credible !!

I think justice was served when Robben had his penalty saved by Cech, only minutes after Chelski were denied a clear penalty in Bayern's penalty area by the ref.

But Bayerns goal? ref got it wrong?

Perhaps time for technology to be used in the game then? Football is probably one of the few sports not to employ technology that would make the ref's job a lot easier.

When the ball was originally shot at goal, Ribery was in an offside position at that moment and became active once the ball reached him.
The ball hit Cole and was not under control or passed by him.
Therefore offside.

I bet Garth Crooks could explain the offside rule.

(on second thoughts, he couldn't explain it all those years ago, so probably couldn't now))

Do you have a clip ?

If he was in an offisde position and 'gaining an advantage' then it does not matter if the ball came from a Chelsea player.

Shot at goal you can be still be offside away from the ball if pulling a defender /gk away or in the GK's way .

If you are in an offside position before the shot is taken, and that position allows you to score form a rebound or deflection, then you are offside.

Have a mooch through these -

http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/afdeveloping/refereeing/law_11_offside_en_47383.pdf

However, these are split second decsions by officials and pundits have the luxury of umpteen angles at their leisure.

Handball - it's got to be a case of 'handles the ball deliberately'.
