BBC electricians

yeah I worked on the set for about 6 months, installing safety systems

na I wasnt there that day, quite weird no one being there and roaming around the square

Dont worry you wouldnt have been alone with all the CCTV watching you, mind you thats if security weren't sleeping at the time

What systems were you installing? when were you there?

lol not sure I should say to much as people (BBC) could probably work out the company I represent, we dealt with a few people high up the chain

ok can understand, did you get to see in the other studios?

the bit where they do all the inside of the pub and house's etc, yeah had a few tellings off for being noisy lol

There is a clue in the video as to what I was doing there, when the guy walks out of the pub listen to what he says about Phil

Thats what they call Stage 1, used to be used for Allo Allo previously with the outside being the square which is now a car park

I cant honestly remember the name, was he a steward there? are you allowed to mention his surname it might jolt my memory

Better not he might not like it, people used to call him "Dick" g*****n as the name was more popular then,he had black hair and a beard and was a bit of an old hippy, he used to roll his own fags and the baccy stunk.

We never met once he left, there were no mobiles then, so dont know much about how he got on.
Although the way he banged on about the BBC pension being good, he has possibly retired, as he was older than me

Just wondered if you knew him thats all, not important.

He was so keen to get there, he was trying for years and it was really hard to get in, even though he knew people there.

He was our shop steward back then and we were all in the EEPTU and he made me go to the meetings in dagenham every week .

Thats it Tim Stage 1, it was a couple of years ago I was there now, I got one of their Albert Square signs signed by the cast, cost me £20 mind

The only hippy type i can remember there was nicknamed "Jesus" but he had blonde to mousy hair and i cant remember if he smoked.

What i'll do is ask one of my colleagues at Sky who was with me at the Beeb he remembers everyone and may jog my memory.

You have to realise that around the mid eighties there were about 240 sparks just working in the studios that came and went so its sometimes hard to put a name to a face.

selling off the props! That doesnt surprise me anymore, they'll probably have a theme park when it moves to Pinewood

I did my HND with a ex BBC electricain he was practical joker!
wasnt from the lighting workshop by any chance was he? got up to many practical jokes due to long boring evenings waiting around for shows to come "off air"

Hi Tim,this is probably a long shot, I'm new here and I was looking around the web to see if I could get any contacts with the guys from the Beeb, I was there from 84 until 93, first in BES then on the floor. So what happened to the sparks, have they all been outsourced.
Been reading these posts and can't place a richard G, the only hippy I remember worked in OBs and was called the Gypsy.
