Beach & History Holiday Recommendations

What did you go for in the end?
Last year went to Cascais in Portugal, which was great. EUR40 Uber from Lisbon too, which was a great way to visit the city.
Cascais has lots of nice little areas, beaches, pubs, cafes etc. Recommend. Not too busy, largely locals holidaying.

This year we're going to Malaga and Granada, split 2 nights in Granada and 3 in Malaga (we still can't afford a full week away!). So will have old towns, tapas, history, plus beach, pool and even a gym at the Malaga hotel to keep the teenage boys happy.

Benidorm!

Spain - San Sebastian is an historic town, great beach and foodie heaven.

Croatia - Dubrovnik is nice, historic, pebbly beaches, but a wee bit over-touristed.

Greek beach destinations, tavernas, great food and wine - always great places to visit, especially if you find a restaurant you like, they will look after you.
Went to San Sebastia for a weekend before kids. I made a terrible mistake of asking what they recommended on the menu - steak. The steak was delicious to be fair, but I guess they recommended it because they needed to sell it ... that ruined a day and a bit!

Obv South of France is great but it’s expensive.
Monaco. All the streets and eating places up by the palace. Cheap as chips. Also the car museum is well worth a visit too. Again, not as expensive as you think. Something like €8 to see every car the Monaco royal family have owned plus a lot more. Around Grand Prix time, they have a collection of F1 cars.

+1 for Rhodes, went in Sept stayed a Falaraki, not as chavy as expected nice beach nice food Rhodes town full of history

Anyone going to Rhodes be aware that the fast ferries go to many of the nearby island at high speed for 20 euro or less, which is much better than buying an experience trip for more money taking 3 hours instead of 1.

Went to Cyprus one year when kids were teenagers. Plenty of beaches with the added convenience of an overnight ferry/coach to visit Cairo museum and the pyramids.

Why go abroad, the north Cornish coast is beautiful and relatively unspoiled. Global warming means it’s a lot warmer than it used to be.

Do they still like the English? My mate who went there in the 70s and 80s said they were still thanking him for what we did for them in ww2
