Afternoon chaps.

I'm wondering, how likely is it that noise leaks through a load bearing party wall where the joists butt in?

I can hear my neighbours telephone incredibley well and wondering if there's anything I could be looking for whilst the floor is still up.

Thanks.

Not much you can do, really, escept finish the floor with hardboard, good-quality underlay and carpet.
Some noise will still come through the adjoining walls.

Any ties between the party wall sections and indeed is the party wall in two distinct sections??

Noise travels through ties, nails etc. modern day regs require a min 13mm gap between opposing party wall components, the gap breaks the sound waves in the same way double glazing units do...pinenot :)
