I am in the process of laminating my kid's bed room ( I know its not every one's favourite idea!) after removing carpet. I saw this material (in the photo)..which looks to be an old style underlay for carpet...?

Can any one confirm what's this item ? Also can I use this as with laminate underlay as well? Wooden floor boards over which I am laying laminate floors got joining gaps, so I though keeping this material will help to make floor uniform..?

thanks

What you have there is indeed carpet underlay and would be unsuitable for laying laminate flooring onto. It would make the laminate floor too bouncy.
You can get a fibreboard underlay which I think is about 6mm thick and that will even out any minor unevenness in your wooden subfloor.
