Can I lay laminate floor over carpet underlay ?

Also what does anyone think of the quality of wickes or B &Q laminates

Laminate is laminate, carpet is carpet.

B&Q & Wickes stuff is perfectly OK, however you will get what you pay for. Their 'budget' stuff will chip quite easily so go for a hard wearing type if it's likely to take a bit of a pounding ( hallways etc ).

Put cheap IKEA laminate over wool felt underlay in busy hall/dining room over suspended timber floor to help with heat/soundproofing.

3 years later, no problems.
