I've got a new mattress, and after 1 month I went to turn it over and our slats are really making bad marks on it which is a worry.
Any suggestions of what (or what not) to use to cover the slats
We have this for 100 day trial and don't want to ruin it just in case

thanks in advance

I just cut chipboard sheets and dropped in. Chucked the slats out.

Question came up here before and I posted pictures.

B&Q will cut ready to fit

Why are the marks a worry!
because they indicate that the fabric is getting extra pressure and will wear away. Spending nearly a grand on a mattress I'd rather it last a long time. or if I need to return it, they won't have an issue with the marks

It won't wear away unless it is moving a lot. If that is the case, then you're having far too much fun to be worrying about marks on a mattress.

Easy solution is by bigger slats. Only issue with covering it with ply is that it will reduce air flow to the mattress, which might lead to other problems, especially if it often gets sweaty ...

I was thinking about that when I posted, but divan bases have hardboard tops.

Perhaps ply with a series of holes drilled in to it may work.

Thanks for the reply, Can you give a bit more info here though. My bed has slats which are under tension and bend in an upwards curve, but if I replaced with flat chipboard I feel that it would break under the weight (combined mattress, me and partner is approx 200kg. Or is this an unnecessary worry?

ahh good point. I am a very hot potato, so ventilation is a must

A sheet of plywood or any other water proof material will result in the underside of the mattress becoming damp from condensation,

Google for mattress pads which are breathable cloth

I can say from experience that it does work.

I don't see the point of slats that are sprung if you have a decent mattress.
I'd turn that bed into a solid base.
We have a different bed but it's been fine for over 20 years.

You can just see the centre rail in photo. We have two boards. One either side.
I also cut some wood to make a support post in the centre. It's all very solid
