hello all,

I just wanted to share my project, first stage of a full house refurb. It's all mainly cosmetic although there will be some structural work downstairs.

The plan is to finish the upstairs (including bathroom) and then on to kitchen/diner, lounge and garden.

So, bedroom one is almost finished, it was last redecorated in 1987...

carpet first thing to come out, with underlay having melted into the floorboards:

then stripping the hideous vinyl (?) wallpaper, i found it was easier to peel the plasticy layer on top first and then steaming the paper itself (which revealed some lovely patchy green gloss (which I had to test for lead):

Preparing the wall for sconces and extra socket (one either side of the bed):

Building arch into wife's dressing area (which replaced ugly door):

building cupboard and dressing area out of ikea wardrobe leftovers:

one wall papered and sconces in:

built in wardobe (on the side) built out of rest of ikea wardrobe (it used to be a huge wardrobe we had in old house but ceilings here were too low, so i cut the top off, bought shorted sliding doors and bolted to wall with all the trims):

carpet in (£50 for carpet fitting was my total expense on external labour, did the rest myself):

And finally, nice big mirror, £20 amazing deal from TKMAX!:

I also laid laminate in wife's dressing area to avoid make up ruining carpet. there is a window in there but fitted a separate light also.

All in all I've enjoyed doing it all apart from the wall papering. It looks great but it's a bloody PITA!!!

Couldn't have done it without DIYNOT advice I picked up from your posts, so thanks to all. Son's bedroom next!

PS. can't get pics to work, but they're all in my album if you want a quick glance
