Hi
i am new to this forum, I wanted to ask a question
I have moved into a semi, built approximately 1930’s
i was removing the paper in the main bedroom and saw it had plaster in the shape of a chimney, I wanted a fireplace in my bedroom (not working just for decoration) anyway I took a few bricks out and saw it was open but there is a wall around 5/6 inches in width going up. Looks like it split 2 chimneys but downstairs the chimney was taken our over 25 years ago (found this out when I purchased the property)
I know I can’t touch that wall going up.
the depth from that wall is around 5 inches
would there have been a fireplace there?
if not why would it have been plastered differently as the rest is sort of a green colour (maybe old bonding)

I really want a fireplace there, what are my options

TIA

Most properties of that age had a fireplace in the main bedroom .The downstairs as you say would of run along side the bedroom one.If only decorative carry on.
