bedroom wall lights

hi can any one help with this,
i have taken a spur of a wall socket and fed this into a fused switch to reduce current to 3 amp then fed from this to a switch which will control the wall light (on /off) the problem is that i must be wiring the switch wrong as it keeps blowing.
i have earth, live and neutral from the fused switch and have also the same going to the wall light.
i only have options to connect to L1 or Common.
Does any one know what i might need to do

The live should be taken into the Common on the light switch. L1 will then be the switched live from the light switch to the fitting. The neutral should be connected in a terminal block in the enclosure but must not be connected to the switch.

The earth appropriately terminated or if required continued to the fitting.

It sounds to me like you are connecting the neutral and live across the switch and creating a direct short. Have a look here for alot more info on lighting.

This is basic wiring so if you are struggling to understand it then it might be best to get some help.
