Hi there,

I'm a bit of a DIY newbie and I'm trying to do some minor improvements to our new house.

There is an existing stonefloor in the downstairs living room that leads via french windows to a patio area, I am planning to cover it with an engineered wood floor covering but I have removed the stone skirting boards and for this:

And I'm not really sure what I should do about it? It's around the base of each corner next to the french windows / doors

Any thoughts?

Thanks for any help.

David

Wall render/plaster should never meet with a concrete floor.

just above your concrete floor will be a dampcourse, you should be able to see it in the brickwork from the outside. By covering the dampcourse with plaster it is now bridged and you will always have damp/moisture problems.

Find the dampcourse from outside for your level and chop off the internal plaster so it is just above the dampcourse. Your dampcourse will now be working again!! and your walls should start to dry out.

Rusty angle beads (proof of rising damp) should ideally be replaced aswell but you would have to re-skim.

You may have to buy taller skirting to cover the gap.

Are you laying your new floor with the floating method?
