Best solution for a decent powerful shower?

Thanks, I’ve changed insurers since then, I still have home emergency cover with the new one but there’s no guarantee who ever they send would be knowledgeable about such an old boiler - given its age I think I’d be better replacing it.
Yes giving its age , if you can afford it a new boiler would be a good idea, has served its time, havent seen one for many years

Do you have any recommendations on spec/make/model for the shower and boiler?

It’s a 3 bed house, only me living in it, 7 radiators and 1 bathroom.

Odd you do not find that an issue. If it was repaired it would solve your shower issues maybe.

Not really, as I mentioned in my original post the shower is electric so fixing the boiler would make no difference. I have never washed up by hand, due to having a dishwasher, and have always washed my hands in cold water - the only reason I'm looking into replacing the boiler is so that I can have a decent shower, not so I can have hot water from the taps as I'll continue to use the dishwasher and wash my hands with cold water.

If I was in your position, I would find an installer that I felt comfortable with , and ask what they recommend, we all have our different favourites, if you say what area you are in there may be someone on here that covers that area and might be interested in doing the work

Thanks, I used a local company to fit a replacement Nest heat link and was very happy with them so will most likely ask them to quote but I don't really know what I'm looking for, other than a boiler and shower!

When I spec a boiler , it is because I have experience with the Manu and a good relationship with them, so I know if ever any problems they will be sorted, never want my customers stuck in the middle of anything and I want to have a direct number to call who I need, so ask your installer who they recomend, ask the same question ten times on here and you will get ten different recomendations

I asked a similar question here. Better get a Worcester or valiant combo boiler. Easily serviced and well recognised

Some people here will nudge you into weird and wonderful brands best avoided unless you are hardcore diyer

Thanks, I just looked on the facebook page of the company who fitted the Nest and it seems he's a Worcester man through and through!

But you are not a professionall installer, personally I would never install either of those

looking into replacing the boiler is so that I can have a decent shower,
Makes no sense...fitting new boiler then changing plumbing to have a combi shower ?? Why not repair boiler and change plumbing?

This is poor advice.

As has been mentioned find an installer you are comfortable with and fit what they recommend, all boilers have decent warranties these days, so there isn't really such a thing called rubbish boilers any more, it's more down to customer service if it goes wrong.

Replacing the electric shower with a mains thermostatic shower when the boiler is replaced sounds to be your best option.

It will be rare you will be able to find a decent electric shower that gives the flow rate you require.

Because the boiler is 20+ years old, currently doesn't work and even if it could be repaired (it's obsolete so parts are not likely available) I wouldn't have confidence in it being the source of my only shower! The reason I didn't replace the boiler sooner is that I'd just bought my first house and was prioritising other things in the house that mattered to me - hot water from the taps didn't matter at all due to dishwasher/electric shower/cold water for hand washing as a preference, it's only the electric shower in winter that's too hot for me on the reasonable flow rate setting that is making me want to replace the boiler.
