It's an Ideal Reponse 80. Needs a main hex of course, but that isn't the problem.

It's on a wall in a kitchen, in a tall cupboard, pretty ordinary position.
But the bottom of it is about 5ft / 1.3m off the floor, so you'd need to stand on something to work on it.

Is that BG policy?

Will they stand on one step of a stepladder to work on a boiler? Must be pretty common.
I bet they'd fit a new one quick enough!

I wonder what relationship the client has with BG? Maybe they were told BG will repair anything for a one off charge. If that is the case then they are entitled to walk away from the job.If the client has a homecare agrement then thats another matter.

Are you paying monthly with BG? If not I would just call a local Plumber, I'm sure they wouldn't refuse the work, probably alot cheaper too.

i think there is a max working height, not sure it's that low though. looks like someone didn't fancy that one

i would have done it if i was promised a nice biscuit with my tea. :) not even a particularly hard job either, not fun at height though.

actually i just thought, its not the height thats the real problem. theres a weight limit on a ladder, thats why BG won't install certain boilers in lofts as parts of them are not allowed to be lifted into the loft on a ladder.

i don't know what the weight is though. 25-30kgs probably.

i would still have done it. :)

didnt think it was possible to work off a ladder and satisfy HSE guidance of 3 points of contact when working from ladders. Not sure if height is even taken into consideration. Had the same advice from 2 different companies 1 of them being bg. Its a bit overkill, but when your working for a company who will back you up, what would you do?

BG's probably worried about the employee who'll appear on the adverts on TV for the ambulance chasing insurance lawyers.

" I was repairing a boiler. BG gave me the wrong type of stepladder. I fell off and half killed myself. My head was broken in 3 places, my left arm was ripped off ( even more than the poor customer), My right leg was severely broken, in 20 places, I sprained my thumb and I wasn't able to work for 3 days. ".
" I contacted, Blaimclaim.scam and received a cheque for £3:45p. Sadly BG made me redundant the same day."

Nah seriously though...... If it were left up to H&S,,, Nothing would get done these days. Next , all boilers will have to be placed on a wall at a convenient height for repair technicians .Q ( how do they know what height the repair technician will be though?) Ahh , All repair technicians will have to be exactly 5' 8 1/2" tall.

If I was going to do it I'd stand on a toolbox!
It seems it's up to the individual BG whether he fancies doing it or not :?

No height policy, if it take 2 / 3 guys on 2 /3 ladders then so be it. The availability of new response hx's may be an issue though.

Was speaking to a mate yesterday he was telling me about the new BG policy of wearing various types of gloves for every sort of work even servicing so sounds like H/S running wild in the nanny work place.

Oilski we checked, Ideal say the parts are still available.
I believe they had to start making them again when the first lot ran out, maybe because of the number of maintenance contracts and it being so soon after sales stopped.

Yes it's true that h&s is pretty crazy atm, infact bg are promoting it as their no.1 priority. The job cannot be refused though if they try just tell them you can provide them with pictures of similar installs bg have made themselves and sold with homecare, I'm sure that wouldn't take too long.

I wonder what relationship the client has with BG? .
I know what my relationship with them is   . Clown calls @ my door last week . I open door point to sign saying " selling door/door. don`t ring " and say nothing while shutting door . Clown wimpers " But I`m from British Gas "
