My current boiler is 21 years old - Vokera 20-80 RS Turbo - I have a BG service contract on it (pretty damn expensive now as you can imagine) and I know it is far from efficient, so I am looking to replace it sometime in the future. I have a few questions re a replacement boiler. I know the new boiler will have to be the condensing type combi boiler - I have my present boiler in a cupboard in my dining room adjacent to an outside wall, so the flue and overflow pipe exit to the left of the boiler and through the outside wall (all covered up in the cupboard). I know a condensing boiler needs to be drained - my grate is on the otherside of my backdoor step so it couldnt be drained into there, but I have a cast iron gutter fall pipe at the near side of my door step - can a hole be made in that to take the boiler drain? Also the drain would have to go outside and under my window - I have read somewhere that any section outside should not be more than 3 meters in length, but is there a rule about how far it should also drop in relation to the horizontal distance? as there is only about 3 feet between the ground and bottom of window sill. Would it be easier (and therefore cheaper) to replace it with another Vokera boiler? I heard that the Vokera Unica was not top of the range but a pretty good boiler for a mid range price?

I've fitted a unica, decent boiler and never heard of any complaints, you can put the condensate into the downpipe, or if thats gonna be a struggle could you not install a soakaway? Make sure thou you increase the condensate to 35mm (1 1/4) and lag well for freezing purposes.

Why not take a look at the boiler installation instruction before you buy it for condensate runs etc, they will be in there.
