Bg watchdog

namsag I know you. Your the regular in mr central heating with holes in your denim jeans and nike t-shirt, driving a rusty white citreon berlingo, cash job being your motto!

God thanks for telling me that JD i would never have known   .

Centrica, BG in this country also have oil and gas exploration arm with the morecombe bay gas fields amongst other sites that they sell themselves gas from.

Not just that thatcher woman it give me well over six figures and know a couple of engineeers who have never sold a single share and are sitting on around half a million quid plus

Nahh... Namsag is the immaculately presented chap in the freshly waxed BG van who announced in PC that he would AR any boiler that he found in Winter where the condensate had been cut and run into a bucket temporarily... You can identify him by his clip board with the sheet with lots of tick boxes and a well worn RIDDOR pad

God thanks for telling me that JD i would never have known
I would have thought you did. So when you say "BG" do you mean BG (The Oil and Gas E&P company) or do you mean Centrica?

Centrica has the rights to the name "British Gas" but not to the name BG.

Why would you open your tools and fix it????.
Is that not called customer service.
A customer is not only asking you in to sell them a boiler they are asking for your informed opinion and advice on what they should do.
You be honest with them and even if you do fix it it for xx amount when the time comes for it to be replaced you will still get the xxxx amount but in the meantime they have told friends family work mates that corgi grouch is a great guy and wont rip you off because he got my boiler going when i was told it was dead.
So the follow on work is far more beneficial to you than a short term gain unless your only in the game for a short period of time.
At present have 7 boiler changes lined up for the coming weeks of which 3 of them are boilers that have been condemened and i fixed .
The longest being 12 years ago the shortest 2 years ago.
These customers didnt even ask for a quote as such they phoned and just said when can you do it and how much roughly will it be.
In my opinion thats customer service and find it the best and in the end most profitable way to work

Namsag we have obviously had our disagreements but on this I agree with you if I get a call about a boler being shut down or customer told it cannot be repaired. I offer to attend and diagnose the fault (if it results in a new boiler anyway I take this fee off the job)
If it can be repaired I give them the option

I had one recently from customer bg told they need new boiler they actually needed a pcb but decided the boiler was old anyway and had given them alot of grief over the years do went for a new one

Yes i mean centrica they not only had the right to use the name british gas in the uk but also pretty certain BG in the beginning but think that was dropped but cannot use them outside of the UK this is then the domain of BG the exploration company . But people still use the BG abbrev when refering to british gas
The theory behind it was that the general public would never associate centrica with gas when the company split.
In reality centrica was set up to force the oil companies hands on the sale of gas , it was set up with a potential debt of 20billion in future contracts and was set to go bust if the oil companies did not renegotiate future contracts.
At the time the spot market per therm was around 10p with gasboard paying 20p in the longtime agreed contracts and where tied into them for the 20 years if memory serves me right.
So as the gas market opened up they where on a loser straight away.
Bet they wish now that they had took the hit back then.

your attempt at humour has fallen well short i dont work for BG have not for a longtime.

And by your comment ANY boiler terminating into a bucket do you not realise that certain boiler this would be releasing products of combustion into the room , good job there is properly trained people out there to keep an eye on people like yourself who would think that is ok for ANY BOILER

Gasservice , yep its simple if a customer called us out to fit a part that either themselves or someone else told them was required we would not take there word for it and i would imagine 99% of people would do there own diagnosis to confirm , selling a boiler is exactly the same in my eyes

Yes I am aware that some boilers do not have adequate traps and I can identify them.... It is funny though how not too many years ago BG were cutting frozen condenates internally and feeding them into a bucket....Oddly enough the change in attitude coincides with the miacle of technology known as the trace heater.... I was fitting trace heating to pipes over ten years ago... To add to that the trce heatin that I use will withstand acidic environments so I can run the element internally so the work that I do does't look like a BG "Pigs ear" afterthought....I have attended lots of frozen BG installs... Given that BG are all knowing and all wise it seems to have come as a surprise to them that water freezes at freezing point....None of my customers had to call me 'cos their condensate had backed up.....

Frozen condensates are a good little earner for BG... "Well yes sir I know that we installed your boiler and have run the condensat in an inappropriate location but we need you to pay us more money to make it work properly....Merry Cristmas!

You used the word ANY that indicates to me you think they where wrong and you didnt know that it is actually dangerous in some cases.
Well its good to see you where ahead of BG in this area along with prob 90% of independents for this i award you todays gold star wear it with pride you have earned it.

Ha ha.. I'll take that as high praise.... The only time I ever want to see one of my boilers is when I come for its annual service and I get very annoyed with myself if I need to attend for a faut caused by my lack of forward planning. For the boilers without adequate traps it is straightforward to make a little trap with a few elbows...

My use of the word Any was an error. Forgive me If I was misleading.

and know a couple of engineeers who have never sold a single share and are sitting on around half a million quid plus
and are they still working for BG . Good Luck to them - I never bought any shares in anything - that`s called principles  . And don`t you lot be so rude about Baroness Thatcher
