For the past 5 or 6 weeks the boiler sounds like it has fired up when we put on the hot water tap ,but it can take sometimes up to 5 mins before any hot water comes through. any one any ideas!?. [/b]

The only way to know if it has fired up is to look through the viewing window for a blue flame!

I assume that you have never bothered to have the boiler serviced?
