Hi Guys,

Our Biasi 24s Combi Boiler has stopped heating water for the taps UNLESS the Central Heating is on, the Central Heating still works fine however. So when the CH is on we can get hot water from the taps but it is somewhat inconsistent and varies from luke warm to very hot.

We have had a boiler specialist look at it and he has said we need to replace the Diverter Valve which he has quoted at £220+£70 for the work.

My question is do we need to replace the entire valve or would a Diverter Valve service kit such as linked below fix the problem? The kit would only cost around £45, but I guess it would require more work rather than just replacing the entire valve?

Any suggestions or advice is appreciated.

Thanks,

Daniel.

I assume that the diaphragm has been checked/replaced.That can be found in the brass housing on the LHS and has 2 pipes connected to it.
If that is ok then absolutely use the kit to refurbish the diverter valve.
I very rarely change a whole valve if a kit is available. This is a DIY job if you have the confidence/tools and skill together with the instruction manual.

I dont think much of a "specialist" who would charge you about £300 for a job I do for about £106 in my local area!

I assume that the diaphragm has been checked/replaced.

No the engineer just pulled the front off looked at it for a minute or two then said we'd need a new Diverter Valve. So the Diaphragm should be checked/replaced first?

Perhaps I should have a look round for someone else to take a look at it, sounds like this guy may be suggesting unnecessary work.

Cheers,

Daniel.

And he was a specialist? I wish I could just remove a cover and diagnose a fault that easily. If you don't fancy having a go yourself then get someone else in.I hope you haven't parted with any money yet.
1st thing to check is the diaphragm and that's a 20 min job to replace.

It now sounds as if he was not being paid to diagnose the problem. In that case he has to quote more because some dont take him up so his visit has been unpaid.

I always charge to diagnose a fault. Thats why I can come and repair your problem for £106 where that other guy quotes you £300.

But you would be surprised how many people dont want me to come because they expect a free diagnosis. I do however consider the symptoms and advise the likely total cost to repair on the phone first.

That's right he didn't charge anything to diagnose the problem. I'm going to give another engineer a call and see if he considers that it could just be the diaphragm.

I'm not sure I have the know how to fix it myself.

Cheers,

Daniel.

It would usually be the diaphragm but can also in say 15% of cases be something else.

If it was then the maximum that I charge is £127. The small parts are available to repair these regardless of whats wrong .

Some engineers dont bother as they make more money charging you £220 for a part which is only about £120!

They are only interested in THEIR pocket and not YOURS!

Could you tell me please i have a problem where when i put the hot water tap on it heats up all the radiators .. It has only just started happening all off them upstairs and down .. Been told its also the diverter valve ?

Are u suggesting i can do this my self . i would have thought i would have needed a registered GAS SAFE pro ??? If not then i can save myself a packet .. Best Wishes Andy

Also regarding my above problem i have noticed if i turn off the radiators by turning the dial to 0 or the off position then i run the hot tap the burner does not ignite .. Can i do this or needs to be Gassafe ? and problem fix my friends :(

the things you can not touch are anything inside internal chamber
and the gas vavle
diaverta is on the inside but not in the internal chamber

To respond to DHW useage the right knob has to be in the DHW position fully anticlockwise or in the CH position clockwise but within the slotted area.

The "O " position is a hard off for not heating of any kind.
