If so and gas cooker is working, then you neeed a CORGi to check it.
Be prepared for some expenditure as the parts required are quite expensive.
However, the boiler is totally repairable!

that sounds like a reasonable diagnosis. . . .
We would charge an inclusive price to diagnose and subsequently replace the gas valve, including a service, of £221 in our local area.
But BG are probably a few pounds cheaper. The only downside is that if it were something very simple like a bad connection, then we would have charged £84 but BG would still charge their £212 or whatever the current charge is.
