I have just moved into a flat and the boiler has been working fine (apart from it dripping when it starts up). I got up this morning to find that the heating hasn’t come on and there is no ignition flame equalling no heating! When I turn on the hot tap however the flame ignites and circulates the water through the radiators for about 20mins max before cutting out again.

Sorry to sound a little dumb, but I am a complete novice in this area and as the weather is turning colder and pennies are tight, could someone please help me in knowing where to start to get this problem resolved for minimum expense?

Thanking you all kindly

Thanks for your quick reply - I am currently at work but I will check this out and respond tonight.
Kind regards

It sounds as if the diverter valve gland has been leaking and damaged the motor acruator.

That often blows fuses or trips an RCD.

I dont see repairing your boiler as a simple DIY job and think you should get someone in.

Read the topic on a similar situation by Ruth Sykes who seems to have been fleeced with whats probably a similar fault.

We would charge £84 + £40 + £20 in a typical case!

Hi Tony,

Thank you for your reply.

Please advise a breakdown description of your charges i.e. what does the £140 include and is that per 30mins/per hour or a one off charge?

Kind regards

The £84 is a fixed price diagnostic charge and the £40 and £20 are for the parts.

But thats only in our primary coverage area. I am only giving you an idea of what a reasonable firm might charge!

I think its unfair to charge for simple repairs at an hourly rate as that means they charge you more if they are stupid and cannot find the fault. It should also be a no-fix no-fee too!

You must make your own enquiries and see if they carry the spare parts as we have to when we do repairs so cheaply.

I am only guessing at the problem so it might be something else.

My ignition doesn't go of too and water heating not always works independently from central heating... couldn't detect any leakage inside, but also to be fare, i wouldn't even know where to look for it :)

Any helpful advice on how to fix that bad boy or should i just change whole boiler ha ha ah (all biasi s24 seem to be having similar problems) ?

Thanks.
Stas.
