We have a 3 bedroom Semi in the Northeast of Scotland.

We can;t have mains Gas (pipe is about 6 miles away)
We can;t have LPG - (calor can;t find a suitable position for the tank

So we were going down the route of OIL fired.

But what about a biomass system, are they price comparitive, what about the size of Burners. Are they the same as Oil boiler.

Are these practical to use in a House or is moving and handling the fuel a big problem. Would this be the same with an "aga" style fired Heating system.

Can you run a Electirical backup for Hot water (with our thermal store) to allow showering in Summer.

Very early disjointed thoughts.

Not I direct answer to any of your questions I know, but have you considered a ground or air source heat pump? Comparable running costs to mains gas, although initial costs are higher.
