Hi I wonder if anyone can help, we have lived in our ex council house for 36 years now, when we moved in the bitumen flooor in the kitchen /diner had a slight bump in the corner of the dining area. The now dining area had been the old coal house and outside toilet and passageway, so the floor may have been relaid at the time of refurbishment. My husband (who is no expert ) seemed to think the so called builders had just chucked some rubbish in and not levelled the floor correctly.
We at the time and for many years carpeted this area, and being in the corner of the room was not a problem. , so the bump was covered and did not bother us. However we decided about 4years ago that we may want to put down some laminate flooring. My husband decided he would try and level out the bump. he did this I think using concrete and a levelling compound. however the lump has since returned. I do beleive that under the area is where the old outside toilet used to be, and when we had our drive done I think the contractor said that the waste pipe was still there. there does not seem to be any wetness or anything on the floor, however the wallpaper is a little lose above it but nothing to cause any smell or anything . I remember seeing a programme on Tv,regarding certain materials reacting with each other and causing such problems ... Can anyone help ... Does this require a specialist . ?
