I am replacing some floorboards on the first floor and have a question concerning one of the upstairs walls. Its constructed out of blocks but is just resting on the floor boards with no support underneath other than the beams.

I want to remove the old boards and lay a new wood flororing, and therefore will it be ok to cut the floor board the wall is resting on as close as possible to the wall.

I am just concerned about whether there will be any loss of lateral support by removing part of the board which the wall is not resting on. I assume it is ok as the force of the wall is obviously vertical, but if I'm wrong I would be grateful if I could be corrected!

Hold on you have a block wall resting on floor boards? So not on a couple of joists under the wall? or maybe a wall below? or maybe even a steel beam below?

Upper floors used to be built from 2 or 3 inch blocks on top of timber sole plates. The chippies laid the floor first and them set out the plates. There might be a double joist under some of them. If you want the floor boards up you wll have to cut them. Don't quote me on whether it will affect the wall or not though, but it will probably be OK.

Do you mean joists or what? Please make your post clearer.

Sorry, yes I meant joists. Just to clarify all the first floor walls are made out of block and all bar the one referred to in my orginal post are simply a continuation of ground floor walls. Therefore it's easy to get the boards up. The one in question is actually resting on the floor boards and therefore it's going to be difficult to cut and I was also concerned whether it would effect the stability of the wall if the board was cut.
