I had someone come round to install a new wood burner and a chimney liner, their work was stopped short when they found the chimney was blocked.
Once on the roof and pot removed there was an obvious obstacle, a length of scaff sticking up the chimney.
We investigated and found two blocked up holes in the chimney in the attic space on opening up these holes a mounting system was found for the scaff. In the upper hole it appears that the scaff has a pulley wheel attached indicating that the pole was once designed to rotate. while in the bottom hole was the scaff mounted with wooden blocks and a type of bearing.
Does anyone know why this pole would.ve been installed in the first place? It is a bit of a mystery
NB. It isn't structural
