Blocked toilet

Does the toilet go straight out the wall into a soil stack?

Is the manhole below blocked or clear?

The soil stack might be blocked which would need to be jetted from the manhole.

Andy

Hi Andy

Am waiting for neighbours to get home as have no idea where the manhole is.

Would you suggest i try the toilet snake thingy? Or take up my friends offer (is a plumber just not in the area right now) to remove toilet and access pipe that way?

the soil stack is the large vertical drain pipe on the outside of your property which carries, um, 'soil' from the toilet to the drain.
On the outside? What, always?

no, but it seemed a reasonable guess to help the OP. I'm sure if on further inspection she can't locate a large pipe on the outside of her house she will have the sense to post back.

Removing toilet inside house is about the last thing to consider since you've no idea what's trapped behind the bend waiting to pour out onto floor surfaces. failing getting a snake around the bend to pull back what's causing the blockage, I'd go for the caustic method as a option, but only if the water is managing to drain away - even if only slowly. If it cannot drain away you will be left with a highly corrosive medium waiting to cause an accident.

If you use a toilet auger, as below and it is still blocked then you will have a blocked stack.

If the bath and sink wastes are also blocked then you have a blocked manhole.

Does the water go down the toilet slowly? if so fill the toilet to the rim with hot water and leave it an hour or until it has gone down. Report Back.

Hi

The upstairs toilet is fine alongside every other sink/bath etc

The toilet when flushed water level comes up to scaringly high levels but then whooshes right down really quickly to quite a low level, should i still try the hot water?
