HI
My detached house is about 20 years old. In the living room there is what I would call a fake chimney breast as we have no chimney.
It has a gas fire which has a horizontal powered flue. On the outside wall you can see the flue grate and fan thing.
I want to rip out the fire of course getting corgi registered to do so.
But I am then going to be left with the hole in the wall with I assume some sort of pipe flue leading to the grate/fan thing on the outer wall.
Can I fill the flue pipe with some insulation and then plaster over the hole so I am left with a flush wall with no fire?
I keep reading about putting a vent on the inside, but this mainly seems to be where real chimneys are involved.
In due course down the line I would like to remove the grate/fan thing and brick up the hole left in the outer wall. But I feel I can do that as and when as shouldn't be an issue leaving that in situ.
Whole reason for me asking as I'm fed up with the draft coming in through the fire which we never use.
Thanks for your help folks.
